Sonya N. Whitman
04/06/2026

Sonya Nicole Whitman, 32, of Whitehall Township, PA, suddenly passed away on April 6th, 2026. Sonya was born on May 11th, 1993 in Newton, New Jersey.

Sonya attended Pocono Mountain West School District and graduated in 2011 with her High school diploma. She then went on to attend La Salle University, graduating with a Bachelor's of Science in Nursing in 2015 while being a member of Sigma Theta Tau International Honors Society of Nursing. She then completed her Master's Degree in Nursing Education at Western Governor's University in 2024.

Sonya worked at Patient First and Lehigh Valley Health Network as a Level 3 Prime Registered Nurse, supporting the PACU and the ASU. Sonya was also a passionate learner who earned her Certification for Medical Surgical Registered Nurse. Sonya loved to educate and train new nurses as well.

Sonya was an unstoppable force of kindness to all of her coworkers throughout her nursing career. She was loved and admired by many who had the chance to work with her or learn from her.

Sonya especially loved to travel and share her adventures with friends and family and was always living her life to the fullest after surviving Osteosarcoma twice in her childhood. When she wasn't working, she was planning trips, concerts, and checking off everything she could on her bucket list. If someone told her she couldn't do something, she would say “watch me”. From climbing the cliffsides of Ireland to meeting an elephant in real life in Africa to hiking to ancient ruins, Sonya did it all. Wherever adventure awaits, Sonya followed the call and let nothing stand in her way.

She loved embracing her Spanish roots and living in the culture any way she could, especially visiting maternal family overseas and finding new ways to bring the culture home.

Sonya is pre-deceased by her mother, Olga Whitman, and Father, William Whitman.

Sonya is survived by her sister Rebecca Whitman. Other family members include Deborah (Richard) Anderson, Deborah Meyer (Reynaldo), Heidi (Dane) Kiely, Lachlan Kiely, Jeremiah Meyer, her beloved cats Doug and Theodore, and many friends and family from across the world.

A Celebration of Life will be held in her honor in the coming future.

In lieu of flowers, Donations to the Ronald McDonald House of Danville to help support Camp Dost, a camp for Pediatric Cancer Families, can be made here in Sonya's Memory:
