Thomas H. Grainger, III, 78, of Bethlehem passed away June 2nd at Lehigh Valley Hospital, Cedar Crest. He was the husband and best friend of Patricia A. (Koerner) Grainger for 56 years. Born in Allentown, he was the son of the late Thomas and Mary Lou (Silverling) Grainger of Swiftwater, PA.
Tom grew up in Swiftwater and he graduated from Pocono Mountain Senior High school. At Pocono Mountain he played numerous sports for the Cardinals, including football, track and field and his favorite, wrestling. He then volunteered for the Armed services. Tom was a veteran during the Vietnam war, serving in the U.S. Army, during which he served three years as a Military Intelligence Officer. While stationed in Omaha, Nebraska he received his Bachelor’s degree at Nebraska University in Criminal Justice. He also went to East Stroudsburg University and received a degree in Economics. Tom had many professions throughout his life, including private detective, window salesman, and a broker for Merrill Lynch, but he really loved being a photographer and owned his own business for many years. Tom loved people, he never met a person he didn’t want to talk to, which made him a great salesman as well.
Tom Grainger deserves the heartfelt tributes normally found in obituaries, he was a true family man and devoted husband. He cherished every opportunity to celebrate and spend quality time with his daughter and her family. He really took pride in his grandson, Max, he loved hearing about all his accomplishments at school and extracurricular activities.
He is survived by his wife Patricia; a daughter Melissa Grainger and her husband Adam Abramson, grandson Max Abramson and extended family.
